Not the Kids
In the past, only a few people could access the internet. But as years go by, the internet is becoming more and more accessible. Consequently, almost anything now can be put and found in the web, including online gambling.
Most families today subscribe to an internet provider for the kids who study at school. The Internet has become a powerful research tool for the kids, it has become a must-have.
Today, kids can easily surf the net. Because of this, online gambling sites could also easily get to them. Now, every parent's concern is how to protect their children from the perils of online gambling, or from online gambling per se.
The issue of internet censorship is much debated on. But since it is your child, your home and your money that pays the internet subscription, it is appropriate to screen what your kids will see in the internet.
How do you stop online gambling sites from getting to your kids? Or, what must you do to stop your kids from going to these unwanted sites?
One trick would be to set a firewall for online gambling sites. However, there are literally hundreds of online gambling sites out there and it is next to impossible for you to list them all down so that your computer may block them. Another problem would be that some kids are so good with computers today that they know how to switch off firewalls.
You now go to plan B. Place the computer in a common room where you can check from time to time just what your kids are doing on the internet. However, this might result to some privacy issues with the kids, especially the teenagers. It would be natural for them to reject this idea.
The best alternative would be talking to your children and explaining to them why they should not engage yet in online gambling. Let them know that they are not legally allowed to engage in any form of gambling yet. Also, inform them of the scams of some online gambling sites. Do not also forget to warn them about using your credit cards online. If they understand your point, then there will be no need for censorship.
What does this teach us? This teaches us that we cannot possibly shield our children from the forces of evil all the time. The best protection that we could give them is information. Do not let them be innocent with the dangers of the world. The earlier they know, the better off they will be.
